Lake Placid (February
25-27, 2007)
Snowshoe racing at the Empire State Games is divided into a two day
activity. Day one consists of the sprints races: 100M, 200M, 400M, and
1500M races conducted on a packed and groomed oval track, with basic
summer track & field rules. Day two presents a distance race of 5,000M,
which is a cross-country race with a mass start.
All racing is done on a pair of high-tech snowshoes and any non-prototype adult snowshoe model with at least 120 square inches of functional surface area and at least 7" x 20" dimensions, is legal for ESSSRA/ESG and USSSA competition. These racing shoes are usually made from aluminum or other lightweight frame, with special polymer decking and traction devices.
To qualify for the Empire State Winter Games sprint races, participants must complete at least 2 qualifying races.
To qualify for the 5,000M race, competitors must complete a 5,000M qualifying race during the racing season.
The top racers in the State for each age/gender category will be invited to the Games in Lake Placid.
**Proof of New York State Residency or status as a full time student in a NY state school required.**
